The counsel of the wicked
    May change from day to day.
It needn’t be consistent
    To keep in error’s way.

Not so with God almighty —
    His counsel stays the same,
And those who stand upon it
    Will not be put to shame.

With God there is no changing;
    No shadow of a turn,
And guided by His counsel
    The simple man may learn.

His counsel stands for ever,
    And stands forever sure;
To every generation
    His thoughts and heart endure.

Though error turns and changes,
    As cunning tales are spun,
God’s counsel is unvaried,
    For truth can be but one.
