He didn’t want to come,
But love drew him here.
He wasn’t commanded,
And came out of fear.

It must have been hard
To leave all the gold.
The beauty of heaven,
The glories untold.

He didn’t come for fun.
He didn’t come to play.
But came with one thought,
That he'd die one day.

He works with his dad,
Yes, day after day.
A carpenter man,
For that was his way.

The nails he’s pounding
I think he must see.
He knows he’ll feel them,
His people to free.

One day all alone,
He went to the cross,
To bear all our sin,
And sorrow and loss.

A lamb he was then.
Its that way you see.
He gave his own life,
So we could be free.

His heart was broken,
They pierced his side.
And that day my Jesus,
For you and me died.

Oh, how is it true,
And how could it be,
He stayed on the cross,
When he could have been free.

Don’t ask me, I pray,
Its Jesus you know,
The one who can heal,
All sorrow and woe.

It wasn’t the nails,
But love held him there.
His love for the sinners,
It seems so unfair.

But Jesus is love,
And we can’t explain.
The reason he came,
And bore all our pain.

He tells us to give him
Our sorrow and care,
And says he will help us,
Our burdens to bear.

Don’t ask why he loves you,
But trust him today.
Believe what he says,
And his word obey.

He’ll heal all your pain,
And give you sweet rest.
Hell stand by your side,
Through every hard test.

Whatever the trial,
Whatever the pain.
He turns every loss,
Right into a gain.

Don’t ask me why,
But I know its true.
That Jesus is there.
For me and for you.
